Change powers our future
PNGC Power will help our members meet their future energy challenges head on. Our
Board of Directors has supplied the strategic direction to ensure that we are able
to provide member utility cooperatives with a power supply that is reliable, flexible
and provides the underpinning for outstanding member service.
Our goal was to seamlessly transition from being a Bonneville Power Administration
(BPA) Slice customer with 24/7 operations into a Load Following customer of BPA.
PNGC’s new 20-year sales contract with BPA secures the benefits of the cost-based
federal system for PNGC member utilities, retains our beneficial Joint Operating
Entity (JOE) status and forms the basis for acquiring additional resources.
On October 1, we began putting PNGC’s new business model into practice, while upholding
our cooperative principles and fundamental commitments to member service. Our focus
is to provide value-added services to members, manage our power supply portfolio
and develop new energy resources at the proper time.
Our staff team will concentrate on the key issues that will position us to meet
members’ future energy needs in the most efficient manner.
We will actively pursue resources that offer the lowest-cost, long-term options.
When the time is right, we’ll assume resource ownership. In the next several years,
we will also aggressively pursue additional energy efficiency and conservation measures,
which is a high priority for us all. Saving a megawatt of electricity is often more
cost effective than generating a megawatt.
The PNGC Board continues to play an important role in the success of our transition,
remains highly engaged in the strategic direction of the cooperative and is key
to the success of carrying out our long-term vision. That vision guides us to resources
that we ultimately own or control to assure cost-based power for our member cooperatives.
I look forward to working closely with our members during this exciting time of
change and opportunity.
