About PNGC

From the President

John Prescott

Consumer-owned electric utilities in our region are in transition. Beginning in the 2012 operating year access to the cost-based Federal Columbia River Power System resources will be limited to the existing capacity. Any growth in the demand for electricity will be met by other resources. This transition will launch a new era for public power in the Northwest. Fundamentally, existing preference customers will be responsible for securing resources for their future load growth. Although this concept has been envisioned for some time, it will soon become a reality.

With change comes opportunity. At PNGC that opportunity comes in the form of having increased control over our future energy supply. PNGC member cooperatives will be making fully-informed resource choices and controlling how those resources are managed. Our planning activities will foster evolutionary change to position PNGC Power for this new energy paradigm. We intend to define our own future by supporting developing technologies and creating a diverse resource portfolio. As an integral part of this vision I look forward to a fruitful relationship with the Bonneville Power Administration for many years to come.

I see a bright future for this power services cooperative. Our potential success is assured in large part by the visionary members who established the original cooperative 30 years ago. PNGC has a proud history of innovation and success in building a solid power supply organization. We will continue building on that foundation to develop a secure energy future for all PNGC members. The benefits of pooling resources and sharing risk will continue to be a cornerstone of our operations.

By actively applying the basic cooperative principles to our team-based organization, PNGC Power will thrive in this new environment. I am proud to be part of the team.
