Salmon River Electric Cooperative to Offer Fuel Cell Technology at Open House
PNGC Power's self-contained fuel cell featured
Challis, Idaho - 10/13/2003 - Salmon River Electric Cooperative will be hosting an open house showcasing a working fuel cell at our headquarters on Tuesday, October 28. The open house will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in our boardroom located at 1130 Main Street in Challis. A representative from PNGC Power will be here offering fuel cell demonstrations and refreshments will be served.
Through our partnership with PNGC Power, we're field-testing the fuel cell system at our office for a limited time. The proton exchange membrane (PEM) type fuel cell has an on-board fuel processor that allows it to extract hydrogen out of a mixture of methanol and water. The hydrogen is then fed into the fuel cell stack and after a chemical reaction takes place, the result is electricity, water vapor and heat.
While fuel cells like these are still a few years from the commercial market they are an exciting and environmentally friendly technology for anyone who needs to generate electricity on site. This is exactly the kind of smart, cost-effective ideas we are always on the look out for.
The fuel cell will be at Salmon River Electric Cooperative through the month of October. We look forward to demonstrating and answering your questions about this exciting technology.
